GAINESVILLE, Ga. - Faulkner rallied late in game one to win 9-4 before losing momentum after a three-run first inning in game two 6-3 on the road, splitting the season series with Brenau Saturday afternoon.
Faulkner 9, Brenau 4
Trailing 4-2 in the fifth, the Lady Eagle bats came alive, scoring four in the frame to take the lead and run away with the win in the twinbill opener.
Tara Ammons launched her first collegiate home run to tie the game on the first pitch she saw, driving in
Ashton Fielding who laced a leadoff single.
Colby Adams's base knock chased Golden Tiger pitcher Chloe Fambrough. The backstop was replaced on the basepaths with Kayleigh Harrison. The Marbury native scored the go-ahead run on a passed ball.
Shelbie Burbage's groundout plated
Madison McKee for the final run of the frame.
Meagan Schwieterman entered the game and coaxed three straight outs to carry the momentum into the next frame.
Kendall Bennett scored the seventh run of the day on another passed ball in the sixth. A missed catch from Kasey Blair allowed McKee to score off a bunt initially put into play by
Taylor Eddy. Fielding drove in Burbage two batters later to finish the scoring.
Katelynn Inness picked up the win striking out one over four innings. Schwieterman got the save throwing three scoreless innings, fanning two.
Burbage, Fielding and McKee each finished with multiple hits.
Brenau 6, Faulkner 3
Bennett's two-RBI double seemed to set the tone for another successful game for the Lady Eagles, but the four-game win streak came to a close as Brenau scored six unanswered to take game two.
Maygen Loparo's one-out double in the fifth proved to be the game winner for the Golden Tigers.
Julianna Thames inherited runners on second and third with one out after the go-ahead double, and escaped unscathed, but the offense could not back the freshman pitcher in flipping the decision for
Jeri Beasley.
Burbage and Cagle each recorded multiple hits.
Beasley took the loss allowing four runs in 4.1 innings pitched. Thames allowed two runs in 1.2 innings pitched in the no decision.
Faulkner hits the beach to participate in the Gulf Coast Invitational Friday through Sunday in Gulf Shores, Ala.
