Lady Eagles take two of four in Berry tourney

MT. BERRY, Ga. - Faulkner entered its final tournament of the year this weekend when they took on four opponents in the Berry College Invitational. Faulkner slammed Wesleyan in straight sets 25-7, 25-15, 25-14 on Friday before turning in one of the worst defensive efforts of the season in the ensuing match. Ogelthorpe picked up the victory 25-21, 25-17, 25-20. The Lady Eagles jumped back into the win column on Saturday with a 25-18, 25-12, 26-24 win over Agnes Scott, but fell to host Berry 25-20, 25-19, 25-16 in the nightcap.

Shelby Woods was the top gun for Faulkner in the event. The junior outside/right side tallied 29 kills, hitting .249, and had three total blocks in the tournament.

Brittnay Renfroe picked up all-tournament honors with her efforts at the net. The sophomore middle had 21 kills, hitting .250, and added 11 total blocks over 12 sets.

Faulkner moved to 10-17 overall and will finish out its season at home with a pair of conference matches this week. The Lady Eagles host Brenau on Tuesday at 7 p.m. followed by Brewton-Parker on Thursday at 6 p.m. The team will honor lone senior Anna DeRamus in a special Senior Night ceremony on Thursday.
