Box Score MONTGOMERY, Ala. - Faulkner battled out of several ruts in sets one and two and fended off a Huntingdon surge late in the final set to clinch the match 25-12, 25-22, 27-25.
The Lady Eagles dug themselves out of a minor deficit early in the opener and cruised to a comfortable win.
Set two was a different matter however, as the Lady Hawks claimed a big lead with just eight points to play.
A well-placed Faulkner timeout ushered in pin-point serving and a scrappy defense helped turn the table and pull the home team back into the game.
Another crucial component was the booming arm of outside hitter Shelby Woods. The junior connected for three thunderous kills in a five point stretch causing the visitors to backpedal. Huntingdon never recovered.
Set three looked to be over not long after it started. The Lady Eagles held a commanding lead just over half way through when a series of mental blunders and miscommunications allowed the Lady Hawks back in the game.
Huntingdon never lost hope and catapulted themselves into lead at the 23rd point. A back and forth battled ensued, but Faulkner managed to edge the resilient Lady Hawks and secure the win in straight sets.
Woods was the kill leader for Faulkner with eight, hitting .316.
Brittnay Renfroe followed closely with seven, hitting .375, and added three digs and a pair of blocks.
Autumn Benson hit .364 with five kills and added two blocks. Vivianne Jewell also had five kills.
Morgan Wilson finished the game with 19 assists. Libero Lindsey Ortner had 14 digs to lead the defense and Katie Martin was on her heels with 13.
Faulkner moves to 6-12 on the season and will host on Martin Methodist on Friday at 5:30 p.m.
