JACKSON, Miss. - Faulkner opened its season Friday evening in the annual Millsaps Invitational here in Jackson. The Lady Eagles fell behind early and despite a close battle in the second set, couldn't manage extended play. The Majors swept the visitors 25-20, 26-24, 25-16.

"We had some moments of really good play," said head coach Tori Bartels. "We then struggled with hitting errors. We are still trying to figure out our lineup, so I thought we might hit a few snags. Everyone contributed and a lot of our young players really stepped up, which is encouraging."

Freshman outside Kelli Lamb led the attack for Faulkner with eight kills, hitting .238. Junior right side Ariel Riley added four and led the team in efficiency hitting .333.

Middle Taylor Dollison contributed on nearly half of Faulkner's defensive stops at the net. The freshman had five block assists and put down six kills.

Freshman Sarah Ford fed the offense tallying nine assists for the Lady Eagles. Sophomore Morgan Wilson followed with seven.

Lindsey Ortner anchored the defense with nine digs.

Faulkner will return to action tomorrow when they take on East Texas Baptist University at 11 a.m.
