Emmanuel blanks ice cold Faulkner

Box Score

MONTGOMERY, Ala. - Emmanuel's Lindsey Fragale and Megan Bright wreacked havoc on the Faulkner defense, while flat play on the home side of the equation failed to generate a worthy threat in tonight's Southern States Athletic Conference showdown at Tine Davis Gym. The visitors clinched the victory in straight sets 25-16, 25-20, 25-17.

Faulkner fell behind early in the opening set and never narrowed the gap to fewer than five points and trailed by as many as 10.

The Lady Eagles found a bit of life out of the gate in the ensuing set, but the Lions clawed back quickly and kept the set at an even pace. Once the visitors crossed 20, Faulkner shut down.

The home team never gained control of the final bout and after leading for just a single point early in the set finally succumbed to the Lions.

Fragale and Bright combined for 20 kills, hitting .316 in Emmanuel's dominating performance.

Alysa Klassen led Faulkner in kills with six.

Shelby Woods hit .625 with five kills, while Sarah Ford and Brittnay Renfroe posted the same total, hitting .571 and .250 respectively. Ford also had 12 assists.

Morgan Wilson offered up 13 assists and tallied eight digs and libero Lindsey Ortner had a team-high 10 digs.

Faulkner hit .167 as a unit, but the significant statistical hole came in blocks. Faulkner averaged 12 stops per match over the last four outings, but managed only three against the Lions.

Faulkner fell to 11-11 overall and 5-5 in the league. The Lady Eagles will host conference power Southern Wesleyan on Saturday at 1 p.m.
