Box Score MONTGOMERY, Ala. - Faulkner squandered two set-point opportunities in its loss to Southern Wesleyan in today's Southern States Athletic Conference match here at Tine Davis Gym. The Warriors claimed the victory 26-24, 21-25, 25-18, 26-24.
Faulkner looked strong early in the match, but froze solid with a 24-22 lead in the opener allowing Wesleyan to connect with four unanswered points and the win.
The Lady Eagles recovered in set two, but a heavy deficit in the third battle proved too much to overcome.
Faulkner led the entire fourth set until 24-22 once again illuminated the scoreboard. The home team began to falter allowing the Warriors to gain the momentum and the win.
Wesleyan's Courtney Williams was devastating, especially later in the contest. The middle hit .341 while striking for 20 kills.
Hayley Hoover and Jacinta Hoffpauir weren't far off with 12 and 10 kills respectively.
Brittnay Renfroe led the offense for Faulkner with 12 kills, hitting .207, and added three total blocks in the match.
Alysa Klassen followed with eight kills and tallied three solo blocks and three service aces.
Sarah Stout contributed seven kills and Kelsey Bell had 12 digs and six kills over the four sets.
Morgan Wilson had 21 assists and seven digs and fellow setter Sarah Ford had 13 assists.
Libero Lindsey Ortner logged 24 digs.
"We just don't seem to know how to put a set away," said head coach Tori Bartels. "We had the momentum, the lead and the ball and we couldn't get two more points - or any for that matter. The girls have to learn to strike while the iron's hot. If you give a good team an opportunity, they will take it and that's what happened to day, period.
Faulkner dropped to 11-12 overall and 5-6 in the league. The Lady Eagles host cross-town opponent Huntingdon Monday evening at 7 p.m.
