Box Score MOBILE, Ala. - Faulkner returned to action this afternoon against Mobile looking to gain a stronger footing in the Southern States Athletic Conference standings. The Lady Eagles went toe-to-toe with the Rams for the bulk of each set, but it was the home team that secured the straight-sets victory 25-21, 25-19, 25-17.
The opening set was a dead heat until a hard kill by Mobile followed immediately by a Lady Eagle ball-handling error took the wind out of Faulkner's sail.
Set two was more of the same, but with Mobile gaining the advantage on a four-point run while holding a 14-13 lead. The Rams were able to freeze the visitors on several short scoring burst and prevented the Lady Eagles from generating any consecutive points.
The home team crept into a healthy lead just over half way through the final set as well and a devastating 5-0 run, which included several more Faulkner ball-handling errors, sealed the deal.
"We had a week off from outside competition and I think that took a toll on us," said head coach Tori Bartels. "We did a lot of things well, but in our efforts to be aggressive, we bit ourselves a bit. Mobile is a solid team, as usual, and it's certainly a victory we would have loved to have, but now our sites are set on Brenau. We'll be ready to go when the Golden Tigers coming knocking."
