Box Score 2 BRUNSWICK, Ga. - Despite improved performance late on day one of the Coastal Georgia Invitational, Faulkner still had to swallow a disappointing loss to Mount Marty. The Lady Eagles were looking to move into the win column here this afternoon, but a strong Webber International team kept them at bay in long five-set battle. The Warriors took the match 17-25, 21-25, 25-16, 25-18,16-14. Faulkner rebounded in the final match of the event this evening however, clipping Illinois Institute of Technology in four sets 19-25, 26-24, 25-22, 25-23.
Faulkner and Webber traded wins and took the decisive fifth set into extended play. Webber ultimately came out on top with Anitaka Knight and Taylor Eiken leading the way with 22 kills (.341) and 18 kills (.256) respectively.
Kelsey Bell was the offensive leader in the first match with 20 kills, hitting .234. She added 10 digs and a pair of aces to her resume.
Shelby Woods and Alysa Klassen both followed with seven kills each and both hit over .200. Klassen had the most impact at the net of any player so far for Faulkner with five total blocks. Woods wasn't far behind with three of her own.
Morgan Wilson offered up 24 assists and had eight digs in the match, while fellow setter KK Lo added 19 assists and 12 digs to the stat sheet.
Elissa Cargile led the defense with 14 digs followed by libero Lindsey Ortner with 11.
The Lady Eagles picked up their first win of the season in the final match of the tournament against Illinois Tech. The Scarlet Hawks had three hitters with double-digit kills, but Faulkner was ultimately able to keep the threat at bay, turning a set one loss into a four set victory.
Bell and Stout were the offensive leaders with nine kills each, hitting .273 and .200 respectively. Bell added six digs and Stout had four in the match.
Woods and Klassen produced impressive hitting percentages offering eight kills each hitting .429 and .368 respectively.
Wilson led the setters with 22 followed by Lo with 15. Lo also helped elevate the defense with 12 digs, a performance topped only by Ortner with 16.
Here stellar performance thoughout the event earned Lo all-tournament second team honors.
Faulkner moved to 1-3 on the season and will next host its own Invitational beginning Sept. 6 where they will open play with Warner University at 5 p.m.
