Box Score THOMASVILLE, Ga. - Faulkner faced host Thomas University in the final bout of the school's weekend tournament here on Sunday. The Eagles got a good look early, but a crucial foul and a talented Nighthawk team combined for a 6-0 loss for the visitors.
Faulkner found some momentum early in the contest when a free kick by Gabi Querioz found Mehdi Himmich in the box who fired a hard shot at the keeper.
Thomas socred soon after however, and took a 1-0 lead in the 14th minute.
An impact deep in Nighthawk territory brought the event to a halt 14 minutes later, the aftermath of which sucked the remaining life out of Faulkner's sail. Tawanda Taurai's mid-air collision with the Thomas defender resulted in the worst possible outcome for both sides. Faulkner was forced to play a man down for the remaining 62 minutes, while a potentially season-ending injury loomed in the minds of the Nighthawk players and fans.
The home team scored on the ensuing free kick and shook the net four more times by the 70th minute.
The Eagles took advantage of the stiff competition and allowed the entire bench to get field work in preparation for the rigorous conference action coming up later this week.
Pritchard Ndaira (1-4-1) took the loss allowing four goals while securing four saves in one half of play.
Diego de Silva held the net for the second half and gave up two goals and had six saves.
Faulkner dropped to 1-4-1 and will host No. 16 Auburn Montgomery in Southern States Athletic Conference action at John Mark Stallings Field Thursday evening at 8 p.m.
