Box Score 2 MONTGOMERY, Ala. - Faulkner was looking to even the win and loss columns this afternoon with a pair of wins on day two of the Invitational here at Tine Davis Gym. The Lady Eagles battled out of a one game deficit against Arizona Christian to secure the victory 16-25, 25-14, 25-17, 25-21. Faulkner then came out swinging against sister school Freed-Hardeman, but after picking up an early win, fell to the Lady Lions in ensuing sets 25-20, 22-25, 19-25, 21-25.
Today's matchups were both reunions of sorts for head coach Tori Bartels. Jenn Denham, Bartels' former assistant, brought her team in from Arizona as part of a six-game Alabama tour.
Denham and the Firestorm got the best of the Lady Eagles in the opening set, but Faulkner managed to turn up the heat and pull out the victory.
Todd Humphry, Bartels' college coach, and his Lady Lions came knocking in the final match of the Invitational. Despite gaining a lot of momentum early however, Faulkner couldn't stop Daymari Brito who accounted for 17 kills in four sets.
Shelby Woods led the Lady Eagle offense with 21 kills, hitting .317, and had seven total blocks at the net in two matches.
Kelsey Bell followed closely with 20 kills, hitting .321, and had 19 digs. Bell was also named to the event's all-tournament team.
Alysa Klassen and Brittnay Renfroe each secured 17 kills hitting and impressive .427 and .322 respectively. Klassen added eight total blocks and six digs, while Renfroe accounted for six total stops at the net.
Chandra Leetham was a huge asset for the Lady Eagles as well accounting for 10 kills, hitting .278, and five total blocks.
Morgan Wilson was again the assist leader with 46 on the day followed by KK Lo with 30 and Sarah Ford with 14.
Libero Lindsey Ortner logged 30 digs on the day.
"Our passing really hurt of today," said head coach Bartels. "We struggled with serve receive and then couldn't protect our own serve. We got flustered at times and let our opponents string too many points together before we got back in the game. We did show fight, but we have to maintain that energy for longer than one or two sets."
Faulkner moved to 3-5 on the season and will travel north to take on Talladega Tuesday evening at 7 p.m.
