Faulkner rally comes up short, falls to No. 5 AUM 3-2

Box Score

MONTGOMERY, Ala. - Faulkner began clawing its way out of a 3-0 deficit deep in the second half of tonight's Southern States Athletic Conference battle against national power Auburn Montgomery, but a pair of goals left the home team short of the mark allowing the Warhawks clinch the 3-2 victory.

AUM (11-2-1/4-0-1 SSAC) ignited the scoreboard twice in less than six minutes mid way through the first half. Lukas Metzinger shook the netting in the 22nd minute for the Warhawks on a relay effort courtesy of Sebastian Wladyko and Pedro Antonelli.

Antonelli then fired a bullet over goalkeeper Pritchard Ndaira who was attempting to trap the ball just a few minutes later. Wladyko logged is second assist on the play.

AUM then tallied a team goal when Faulkner's Mehdi Himmich inadvertently rolled a shot into the home net 13 minutes into the second half.

Faulkner responded with an offensive goal just one minute later, however, when Gnande Zleh bolted down the sideline finding Alec Daley on the cross in front of the netting.

Zleh then scored a goal of his own with three minutes remaining in the game on a feed from Gabi Queiroz.

Ndaira (5-4-2) allowed three goals and had six saves in the loss.

AUM's Phillip Hitpass got the win allowing two goals and securing four saves.

Faulkner (5-4-2/1-2-1 SSAC) travels to Pulaski, Tenn., for an SSAC showdown with Martin Methodist on Thursday at 7 p.m.
