Faulkner blasts Brenau in straight sets

MONTGOMERY, Ala. - Faulkner picked up a key Southern States Athletic Conference victory tonight when it dealt a knockout blow to Brenau in straight sets 25-16, 25-14, 25-20 here at Tine Davis Gymnasium.

 

Nine Faulkner team blocks combined with aggressive serving, helped keep the Golden Tigers (13-10/7-6 SSAC) out of system which contributed significantly to Brenau's 0.000 hitting percentage as a unit.

 

Sarah Dubberley led the home team in kills with seven and had three block assists.

 

Alysa Klassen was one back with six kills, hitting a solid .429 and added an impressive eight total blocks, a feat eclipsed only by here 10-block performance against Spring Hill in the home opener.

 

Brittnay Renfroe and Kiki Coombes each had five kills for the birds.

 

Moran Wilson co-fed the offense and tallied 17 assists on the night while Jordan Jones added 12 and had seven digs.

 

Lindsey Ortner was the dig leader with 21 and Cassie Bailie had 14.

 

"We did exactly what we needed to do tonight," said head coach Tori Bartels. "We played up throughout the match, didn't get too rattled by our mistakes, made adjustments as we went and never turned over the momentum. We have another must-win tomorrow and we will need to continue in this stride."

 

Faulkner (18-9/8-6 SSAC) will host Dalton State in league play tomorrow at 2 p.m. The Roadrunners took down the Lady Eagles in four sets in their previous encounter this season.
