Box Score MONTGOMERY, Ala. - William Cary's Mohamed Degheb punched in the game-winner with just 28 seconds remaining on the clock to earn the 2-1 victory over Faulkner in tonight's Southern States Athletic Conference match here at John Mark Stallings Field.
The 25th-ranked Crusaders (10-6/5-3 SSAC) took control of the event just 11 minutes into play when Andri Jonsson found Pedro Villar Roldan on a cross for the first score of the night.
It wasn't until the 80th minute that Faulkner finally answered when Costa Whitehead rocked a bending header around a leaping keeper on a Jeff Ransom cross.
The Eagles continued to apply pressure on the frame through the remaining minutes, but were unable to connect.
Just when it looked like overtime was eminent, however, Degheb collected a Faulkner turnover and fired a shot under Diego de Silva to put the event away.
De Silva (0-1) logged four saves and allowed two goals in the loss.
Faulkner closed the regular season at 5-8-2 overall and 1-6-1 in the league. The Eagles will next compete in the opening round of the SSAC tournament against Bethel for the match on Nov. 7 or 8. The Wildcats defeated the Eagles 4-0 last week. Faulkner last made the tournament in 2009.
