Faulkner blows by Belhaven in regular season finale

Box Score

MONTGOMERY, Ala. - Faulkner hosted Southern States Athletic Conference rival Belhaven in the regular season finale here at Tine Davis Gymnasium this afternoon. The Blazers clipped the Lady Eagles in the opening set, but the home team gained momentum and bulldozed its way to victory 19-25, 25-11, 25-19, 25-7.

Brittnay Renfroe proved and offensive juggernaut for Faulkner ripping a season-high 16 kills while hitting an impressive .682 in the process. The senior middle also contributed three total blocks.

Outside hitter Sarah Dubberley tallied 13 kills of her own hitting .290 and had a pair of block assists.

Setters Morgan Wilson and KK Lo registered 24 and 21 assists respectively and eight and seven digs.

Libero Lindsey Ortner offered up 20 digs to lead the defense and Cassie Bailie followed with 17.

"We had a slow start today," said head coach Tori Bartels. "We had a big crowd, the biggest in several years, and I think our nerves were nagging at us a little. Belhaven did a great job early on of keeping us out of system and exploiting our weak points. Once the girls settled down, however, we really started clicking and went on to play some of the best volleyball I've seen this season. I'm really proud of how they came together today."

Faulkner honored four seniors after the game in a special ceremony. Renfroe, Ortner, Wilson and Lo all competed on their home court for the final time and moved the team to its best finish since 2007.

Faulkner closed the regular season at 22-10 overall and 11-7 in the league. The Lady Eagles will next enter pool play in the opening round of the SSAC tournament on Thursday. Pairings and times have yet to be determined.
