Dorminy, Llera lift Faulkner past Spring Hill 6-1 in SSAC series opener

Box Score
MOBILE, Ala. - Thomas Dorminy scattered five hits in eight strong innings and Robert Llera hit a pair of home runs as top-ranked Faulkner pulled away from Spring Hill for a 6-1 victory here Friday night in the opener of a Southern States Athletic Conference three-game series at Stan Galle Field.

Dorminy (4-0) struck out 14 Badger hitters and, after allowing a run on three hits in the first inning, completely shutdown the Spring Hill attack. Llera's home runs came in the first and fifth innings, and he added a sacrifice fly in the sixth as the Eagles moved to 18-4 overall and 6-1 in the SSAC.

"It's always good to start a conference series with a victory, and Thomas was lights out tonight," Faulkner head coach Patrick McCarthy said. "Robert got the big hits when we needed them. We're starting to play better baseball, and we're going to need to continue that tomorrow against a really good Spring Hill team."

Llera and Esteban Paula each had three hits for Faulkner, with Paula crossing the plate three times. Elvis Rodriguez drove in a pair of runs to aid the Faulkner effort. Brian Sims had two hits and scored the lone run for Spring Hill (15-7 overall, 6-4 SSAC).

Faulkner and Spring Hill conclude the series Saturday afternoon with a doubleheader set to begin at 1.
