Faulkner claims victory over Brewton-Parker in straight sets

Box Score

MONTGOMERY, Ala. - Faulkner cruised by Brewton-Parker 25-12, 25-18, 25-14 in tonight's Southern States Athletic Conference home opener here at Tine Davis Gymnasium.

The Faulkner defense gave up just two kills in the opening bout, but costly errors and a resilient Lady Baron crew forced the home team to rethink things by the second set.

The visitors matched Faulkner point for point through the bulk of the second frame and it wasn't until late that the Lady Eagles finally managed to pull away.

The third set, however, saw a more aggressive Lady Eagle attack and it was enough to keep Brewton-Parker scrambling for points.

"We played very sloppy tonight," said head coach Tori Bartels. "We struggled finding a rhythm and building consistency. We had some players step up and do a great job, but overall it wasn't our best. We're playing a very talented team tomorrow and one we've faced already. We need to rest tonight and come focused tomorrow."

Alysa Klassen was the offensive leader for Faulkner with nine kills, hitting .471. She also took control of the net with five total blocks.

Sarah Ford offered six kills, hitting .333, and Hannah Shanley followed with five, hitting .400.

Libero Lindsey Ortern had 14 digs.

Faulkner (11-4/2-1 SSAC) hosts No. 25 Coastal Georgia in SSAC action tomorrow at 2 p.m. The Lady Eagles fell to the Mariners in four sets earlier this season in non-league play.
