No. 25 Coastal Georgia cripples Faulkner in straight sets

Box Score

MONTGOMERY, Ala. - Faulkner never managed to overcome the swift Coastal Georgia attack here in today's Southern States Athletic Conference showdown. The undefeated Mariners trimmed back the serving errors that plagued them early in the match while simultaneously continuing to dominate in every other facet of the game to easily secure the victory 25-18, 25-18, 25-6.

Coastal Georgia's .407 hitting percentage stacked more than favorably against Faulkner's .071. That coupled with the even-keeled team blocking crated a massive advantage for the rapid-fire Mariner assault.

Rachel Amundson crushed 13 kills while hitting .600 for the visitors and Maddie Bounds followed with nine batting 1.000.

Faulkner's attack was spearheaded by roommates Kiki Coombs and Alysa Klassen who connected for six and five kills respectively. Coombs also tabulated the highest hitting percentage of effective weapons at .286 and had a pair of block assists.

Morgan Wilson had 11 assists in the match and Jordan Jones had seven.

Libero Lindsey Ortner was the dig leader with 10.

Noticeably absent from the event was Faulkner's defensive barrier at the net. The Lady Eagles ranked 18th in the nation with 2.3 blocks per game heading in to the outing, but tallied just three total this afternoon.

Faulkner dropped to 11-5 overall and 2-2 in the league. The Lady Eagles next travel to conference foe Belhaven. That match is set for 7 p.m. in Jackson, Miss., on Tuesday.
