Box Score 2 MONTGOMERY, Ala. - Faulkner never lost control against Webber International and gained the win 25-20, 25-23, 27-25 before blistering Freed-Hardeman 25-8, 25-17, 25-14 on the final day of the home Invitational.
The Lady Eagles suffered a four-set loss to Webber in the Mariner Invitational last weekend and was determined to redeem itself in today's opener. Faulkner dominated on both sides of the ball and utilized aggressive serving to keep the Warriors out of system.
Anitaka Knight, who plagued the Lady Eagle defense with 22 kills in the last go-round, sill dominated for Webber, but in more subdued fashion. The high-jumping outside connected for 13 kills to lead the floor, but it wasn't enough to scathe the home team.
Sarah Dubberley led the way for Faulkner with 11 kills while hitting .303.
Middles Brittnay Renfroe and Alysa Klassen followed with seven each and Klassen added four total blocks.
Dubberley then blew the doors of the hinges in the final match of the day out-killing the entire Freed-Hardeman lineup single-handedly. The junior outside had an impressive 16 kills and hit a staggering .682 in the process. The Lady Lions amassed 15 kills as a unit.
Renfroe and Klassen each had five kills in the final bout and had four and three total blocks respectively.
Dubberley and Klassen were both named all-tournament selections.
Morgan Wilson had 28 assists on the day while Jordan Jones offered up 17 against the Lady Lions and KK Lo contributed 12 in the Webber match.
Cassie Bailie owned the back row for Faulkner with 25 digs on the afternoon. Libero Lindsey Ortner added 23.
"I'm incredibly proud of this team," said head coach Tori Bartels. "They could have been intimidated by a team that beat them just a week ago, but instead they rose to the challenge. You can't say enough about a team with this kind of fight. We still need to improve in a lot of areas. I've been impressed with our defense, but there's always room to improve. We're going to talk about set distribution, different offensive looks and tooling the block. Overall, a very successful weekend for us. Now we have to prepare for Point."
Faulkner (8-3) will host Point University on Tuesday evening. The match is set for 6 p.m. at Tine Davis Gym.
