MONTGOMERY, Ala. - Faulkner never trailed in Tuesday evening's match against Fisk University and went on to dismantle the visitors in straight sets 25-14, 25-19, 25-10 here at Tine Davis Gymnasium.
The Lady Eagles made bold runs out of the gate in each of the three sets with the serving core and scrappy defense kept the Bulldogs from ever gaining any real momentum.
Fisk did manage to pull Set 2 within a point near the midway mark after capitalizing on a few smart attacks and numerous Faulkner ball handling errors, but the home team never lost control of the board.
The final set was quick, and for the Lady Eagles, painless. Faulkner blistered the Bulldogs with an onslaught of aggressive work at the net and when Delricka Anthony finally stepped back to serve at the 16-10 mark, Fisk completely shut down. The senior anchored a 9-0 run to close out the match while her teammates helped orchestrate an offense for which the visitors had no answer.
"Fisk is a quality team," said head coach Tori Bartels. "We played them close at their place earlier this year and they gained a lot of momentum from a rowdy crowed. We're playing at a different pace now than earlier this season and the girls threw everything we had at them and it paid of in a big way. This is a great energy-builder heading into a tough weekend on the road."
Every Lady Eagle contributed in the win, but it was outside hitter Elissa Cargile who sole the show. The senior led the Faulkner offense with 10 powerful kills while hitting staggering .714. The flip side of her game wasn't shabby either. Cargile also led on the back row with five digs and was second up front with two total blocks.
Alysa Klassen was also a force to reckon with at the net. The junior middle blocker tallied seven kills while hitting .700 and led the defense with four total blocks.
Krystalynn Leomiti also stepped up in a big way with six kills, hitting .750, and added a block.
Katie Musser had 23 assists and four digs on the night and fellow setter Jordan Jones logged 11 assists and four digs.
Faulkner improved to 19-10 overall and will next take on Martin Methodist in Southern States Athletic Conference action in Pulaski, Tenn., on Friday at 7 p.m.
