Box Score MONTGOMERY, Ala. - Bethel shot out of the starting block with an aggression and determination that seemed to catch Faulkner completely off guard. The Wildcats utilized strong serving and a relentless front row to blank the Lady Eagles 25-22, 25-28, 25-16 here at Tine Davis Gymnasium this afternoon.
Faulkner did manage to bail itself out of a six-point deficit at the 21-16 mark in Set 1 behind the serving arm of Elissa Cargile (SR/Hope Hull, Ala.) and an error-laden Bethel attack. The event moved into a 21-21 tie, but the Wildcats managed to tighten up the leaks before irreparable harm could be done and scooted into a three-point decision.
The scrappy Bethel defense continued to liven up in the second set, thwarting the lion's share the Lady Eagles' powerful attacks.
By the final bout the Wildcat energy permeated the gym all the while sucking the wind out of Faulkner's sail. The visitors cruised to a 5-0 lead and despite an ongoing fight, the home team never truly recovered.
Eloisa Sales dominated offensively for Bethel with 13 kills, while hitting .462, followed by Daisy Liljenquist with 10.
Sarah Dubberley (SR/Montgomery, Ala.) was the Lady Eagles' answer to Sales. The senior outside also had 13 kills, while hitting .367, and added six digs.
Alysa Klassen (JR/Scottsdale, Ariz.) and Krystalynn Leomiti (FR/Long Beach, Calif.) each had five kills in the match.
Setters Katie Musser (FR/Prattville, Ala.) and Jordan Jones (SO/Peachtree City, Ga.) had mirror performances with 14 assists each.
Libero Cassie Bailie (SO/Camas, Wash.) led the back line with 15 digs.
Faulkner fell to 13-7 overall and 5-3 in the league. Faulkner will next enter the Missouri Baptist Invitational beginning on Oct. 9 in St. Louis.
