Box Score 2 MONTGOMERY, Ala. - The Lady Eagles claimed their first straight-sets victory of the season against Truett-McConnell 25-23, 25-20, 25-15 Friday afternoon before repeating the feat against Webber International a few hours later 25-14, 25-8, 25-21 here in the annual Faulkner Invitational at Tine Davis Gymnasium.
Faulkner overcame a back-and-forth grudge match against the Bears through a pair of sets in the opener before punching the gas pedal in the final showdown to secure the decisive win. Every Lady Eagle contributed in the bout and the team boasted a .345 hitting percentage, its highest so far this season.
Webber International came knocking in the final match of the day, but Faulkner picked up right where it left off against Truett-McConnell. The Lady Eagles dominated every facet of the game, dismantling the Warriors in rapid fashion.
"I was so proud of the girls tonight," said head coach Tori Bartels after the Webber game. "It's absolutely the best I've seen them play yet. Things were a little slow-going earlier in the day, but once it started to click everyone could feel the energy change. They played hard, fought for every point, were scrappy and didn't let the little things get to them. That's all I want from them at the end of the day. The fire we had tonight has been what we've been missing so far this season and now that it's lit, we have to do everything we can to fan the flames."
Sarah Dubberley had 18 kills and hit .411 on the day. The senior outside hitter also tallied 11 digs and three service aces.
Junior middle Alysa Klassen had 12 kills while hitting .442 over two matches and added four total blocks.
Right side Bailey Mount stepped up to the plate for the offense and contributed 11 kills hitting .428. The freshman also had five total blocks on the afternoon.
Sophomore outside hitter Hannah Shanley matched Mount's 11 kills hitting .336 in the pair of matches.
Freshman middle Krystalynn Leomiti led the Lady Eagles against the Warriors with eight kills hitting an impressive .615. The freshman had 11 kills, four total blocks and a pair of service aces in total.
Jordan Jones had 34 assists and logged eight digs for Faulkner, while fellow setter Katie Musser had 21 assists and eight digs.
Libero Cassie Bailie led the back row with 27 digs.
Faulkner improved to 6-3 on the year and will take on a pair of opponents in the Invitational finale on Saturday. The Lady Eagles face off against Southeastern at 1 p.m. followed by Freed-Hardeman at 5.
