Bartels wins 200th as Faulkner tops William Carey

Box Score

MONTGOMERY, Ala. -  Faulkner head volleyball coach Tori Bartels earned her 200th career win this afternoon as her Lady Eagles (15-12, 11-4 SSAC) took care of Southern States Athletic Conference newcomer William Carey (6-17, 4-11 SSAC) 25-19, 25-15, 21-25, 25-18 here at Tine Davis Gymnasium.

The home team was snail-like out of the gate, but was firing on all cylinders by the midway mark of the opener.

The Crusaders did lead early in the first two sets, but their energy tapered off toward the end of both which gave the Lady Eagles the advantage.

By set three, however, William Carey, armed with an aggressive swing and scrappy defense, controlled the momentum. Faulkner led for only a point at 18-17 and struggled with attack errors, most of which were on the tail end of defensive blunders.

The home team rebounded in the final go aground and though the visitors did gain some traction, Faulkner never faltered.

The Lady Eagles hit .248 as a unit and had nine team blocks. The Crusaders hit .125 and had five team blocks.

Daijah Washington was electric offensively for Faulkner with 15 kills, hitting .303.

Cassie Bailie recorded her second double-double of the year with 13 kills and as many digs. The junior outside hit .382 in the match.

Alysa Klassen was once again devastating up front logging eight kills, hitting .208, and adding six total blocks..

Fellow middle Tori Marchant had six kills and three total blocks

Katie Musser offered up 23 assists and 13 digs from the back row end of the 5-2 system, while Krystalynn Leomiti added 17 assists and five digs from the flip side.

Libero Julianne Wilkes led the floor with 20 digs.

The team honored it's four departing players in a special ceremony following the match. The athletes celebrated, shown below from left to right, included junior Mallory Roberts and seniors Holly Hudson, Jordan Linder and Alysa Klassen.

Faulkner wrapped up its home season with the win this afternoon and will head into a five-game road run to cap the season beginning next week. The birds will kickoff the stretch with an SSAC showdown against Bethel in McKenzie, Tennessee, Oct. 28 at 7 p.m.
