Coastal Georgia cuts down Faulkner in straight sets

Box Score

BRUNSWICK, Ga. - Coastal Georgia hit a staggering .505 as a unit while holding Faulkner's offense to lackluster kill totals to earn the Southern States Athletic Conference victory 25-23, 25-22, 25-12 here this evening.

Despite hitting a respectable .227 overall, Faulkner failed to convert the kill numbers to do any lasting damage to the Mariners.

The visitors were led by outside hitter Cassie Bailie's double-double performance. The junior out of Camas, Washington, had 11 kills, hitting an impressive .409, and added 10 digs.

Senior middle Alysa Klassen followed with seven kills behind a .353 efficiency and had a pair of blocks.

Libero Julianne Wilkes led the court with 13 digs and Katie Musser had 18 assists.

"We didn't make wise decisions tonight," said head coach Tori Bartels. "We struggled some defensively and we had some frustration issues that the girls couldn't shake. At this point in the season, just a week away from the conference tournament, I expect us to be stronger mentally and emotionally than we are at times on the court. Things won't always go your way, but you have to push through that. We need two big wins this weekend to give us some momentum heading into next week."

Faulkner continues it's three-day Georgia run with an SSAC match tomorrow evening against Middle Georgia State in Macon at 6 p.m. central.
