Lady Eagles fend off early Knights surge, win in straight sets

MACON, Ga. - Middle Georgia State (8-20, 3-16 SSAC) bolted out the the starting block in tonight's Southern States Athletic Conference matchup ready to make a statement against Faulkner (17-14, 13-6 SSAC). The home team went toe to toe with the Lady Eagles for the entirety of the opening set, but once the visitors found sure footing, there was little the Knights could do to keep pace as Faulkner claimed the 27-25, 25-15, 25-16 victory.

 

Alysa Klassen spearheaded the Lady Eagles with nine kills while hitting a stellar .571. She also had three block assets.

 

Kiki Coombs followed with eight kills, hitting an equally impressive .533.

 

Cassie Bailie also had eight kills and added nine digs.

 

Setter Krystalynn Leomiti offered up 13 assists, six kills with a .455 efficiency, six digs and co-led the front row with five block assists.

 

Tori Marchant also had five stop assists at the net and three kills.

 

Fellow setter Katie Musser delivered 17 assists to the arsenal and added four digs and a pair of aces.

 

Libero Julianne Wilkes matched Bailie's nine digs.

 

Faulkner will close out the regular season tomorrow against Brewton-Parker in Mount Vernon. First serve is set for 1 p.m. central.
