Faulkner takes down Blue Mountain 71-53

Box Score

MONTGOMERY, Ala. - Faulkner (7-5, 2-1 SSAC) secured its second consecutive Southern States Athletic Conference victory with a convincing 71-53 win over Blue Mountain College (5-3, 2-1 SSAC) here at Tine Davis Gymnasium this evening.

The Eagles' stingy defense helped set the tone for the final outcome of the ballgame with a strong presence out of the gate following halftime. Faulkner held the Toppers to just two points in the first seven minutes of the second half while the Eagle offense tallied 11 en route to it's largest lead of the night at 22 points. Blue Mountain never recovered.

The visitors were led by Anfernee Floyd who booked a double-double with 13 points and 11 rebounds, but there wasn't enough accompanying firepower to offset the Faulkner attack.

The Eagles were paced by senior Di'mar Hill who had 19 points, 16 of which came in the first half. He also added four rebounds and assists.

Marquis Grays did the opposite. The junior guard tallied 12 points, all of which came in the second half.

Logan Jozwiak offered up 10 points and eight rebounds for Faulkner.

Matt Maddox added eight points and four boards while Rene Scott had seven points and three rebounds.

"I was very pleased with our defense tonight, especially in the last 28 minutes," said head coach Scott Sanderson. "They wanted to play long possessions and we were able to force them to have to work to get the shot off. We shot well from the free throw line and we held them to a 33 percent field goal percentage."

"We spent a lot of time together over the break," he added. "When it's kind of just us on campus we get closer and get to know each other better. We started to understand one another better as players and coaches. We played well tonight, but I still don't think we've scratched the surface of this team's potential."

Faulkner will next host No. 8 William Carey (8-2, 2-0 SSAC) in SSAC action at noon on Saturday.
