Box Score MONTGOMERY, Ala. - Faulkner (8-5, 3-1 SSAC) overcame a brief offensive hiccup early in today's Southern Stats Athletic Conference showdown against No. 8 William Carey (8-3, 2-1 SSAC) to secure a convincing 94-82 victory here at Tine Davis Gymnasium.
The Eagles fell behind 9-2 over the first four minutes of play, but once in control of the lead just five minutes later the home team never trailed again.
Faulkner scored the second most points in any outing so far this season courtesy of double-digit efforts from four Eagles.
Di'mar Hill was again stellar and led all scorers with 32 points, 17 of which were tallied at the free throw line. He also added six rebounds and five assists.
Rene Scott offered up his best offensive showing of the season thus far with 21 points and had a pair of rebounds and an assist.
Logan Jozwiak was 4-for-8 from behind the arc on the afternoon and scored 14 points while adding five boards and an assist.
Jose Jimenez had 10 points, seven rebounds and three assists for the Eagles.
Though Faulkner's offense proved potent against one of the nation's best teams, its defense was equally brilliant through the bulk of the affair. The Eagles held the Crusaders scoreless for the first three minutes of the second half and to just eight points over nine minutes.
"I thought out defense played really well, though we'd have liked to keep them to few points and a lower shooting percentage," said head coach Scott Sanderson. "Over those last five to six minutes we needed to defend without fouling and we struggled with that. Offensively I thought we really stepped on the gas for the last 12 minutes or so of the first half. We were down by six and then we were put by 10. We're trying to create habits. We're going to score the ball but we need to be able to defend without giving up unnecessary fouls."
Faulkner will next host conference rival Mobile at Tine Davis Gym at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday evening.
