Faulkner offense struggles in loss to Union

Box Score

BARBOURVILLE, Ky. - Faulkner managed to trim a lot of the fat that weighted down its hitting efforts yesterday, but the reduction in errors didn't translate directly into kill increases this afternoon against host school Union College in the NAIA Southeastern Challenge. A scrappy Bulldog (6-5) defense fended off the Lady Eagle (0-7) attack, reloading the ball for its own offensive assault. Union out-killed Faulkner 39-22 in the straight sets victory 25-18, 25-18, 25-22.

The Lady Eagles reduced their attack errors from 35 last night against Bryan to a more competitive 18 here today. But the drop in points handed over to the opposition still didn't turn things around for the offense. Faulkner only managed a .040 hitting percentage which hovers among the lowest posted so far this season. The team's kill leader offered up just five termination points, the fewest by any player since the Missouri Baptist match in October of last year.

Things weren't all sour, however. Faulkner's block showed up in full force against the Bulldogs boasting 11 total team stops, the most by the defense since the second Bethel game also in October of last year.

Digs between the two teams were neck and neck with Union just edging the visitors 54 to 51.

At the end of play it was the kill margin that dominated the overall picture. The Bulldogs recorded 17 more kills than the Lady Eagles and ultimately won by that exact margin.

Daijah Washington led the offense with five kills and added six digs and three block assists.

Alysa Klassen followed with four kills and was a huge part of the block effort with six total stops.

Tori Marchant added four total blocks and had three kills.

Katie Musser had 12 assists, seven digs and three aces against Union.

Julianne Wilkes booked 15 digs and Cassie Bailie added 13.

Faulkner will close out play here against Warner today at 3 p.m.
