Faulkner fends of Brewton-Parker, wins seventh straight

MT. VERNON, Ga. - Faulkner (11-5, 6-1 SSAC) battled out of a slight first-half deficit to slip by Brewton-Parker (5-9, 1-6 SSAC) and into its sixth straight Southern States Athletic Conference victory with the 93-88 final here tonight.

 

Jose Jimenez, who set a career-scoring mark against Mobile last week with 23 points, went one better against the Barons with 24. The senior guard led all scorers for the third consecutive outing while also continuing to be an impact player on defense with seven rebounds.

 

Rene Scott and Marquis Grays also proved key in the Eagles' seventh consecutive overall win by contributing 16 points each to the tally. Scott also booked six rebounds, an assist and a steal while Grays had three boards, four assists and a pair of takeaways.

 

Earvin Perroni had a standout evening for Faulkner as well. The junior forward posted season-best figures with 12 points and eight rebounds and threw in two assists for good measure. Perroni had just 14 points total on the year entering tonight's showdown.

 

Faulkner will next travel to Brunswick to take on Coastal Georgia (5-10, 2-4 SSAC) in an SSAC action on Saturday at 3 p.m. central.
