Faulkner cuts down Mobile 81-67

Box Score

MONTGOMERY, Ala. - Faulkner (9-5, 4-1 SSAC) never trailed and held a double-digit lead from the eight-minute mark on en route to its fourth consecutive Southern States Athletic Conference victory with the 81-67 final over Mobile (6-7, 2-3 SSAC) here at Tine Davis Gymnasium this evening.

Faulkner hit the accelerator right out of the gate and claimed a 12-point lead while shooting 100 percent over the first four minutes of play. The Eagles led by as many as 21 in the lopsided affair that soon became so riddled with fouls that neither team could orchestrate, let alone maintain, any kind of tempo. A whopping 52 infractions plagued the contest with a whistle stopping action an average of 1.3 times per minute.

Though the overall rhythm of play felt rather fractured by usual SSAC standards, the contest wasn't without it's highlights.

Faulkner's Jose Jimenez sparked for a career-high 23 points to lead all scorers while co-leading defensively with nine rebounds. The senior guard also had four assists.

Mobile's Raykwon Fenton tallied 20 points and matched Jimenez with nine boards.

Logan Jozwiak was 3-for-6 from 3-point territory and booked 18 points and had four rebounds against the Rams.

Lucas Luttrell added 13 points, five boards and three assists to the Eagles' statistical totals.

"Good teams adjust to the whistle and we didn't do that tonight," said head coach Scott Sanderson. "In that type of situation, where there are so many fouls, if you're facing a really good free-throw-shooting team, that can become a problem."

"Jose was great for us tonight," Sanderson added. "He's a utility player and he played every position on the floor tonight. He has a good feel for the game and he's usually a play ahead of everyone else. He's been good four us over the last three years and tonight he scored points and rebounded the ball as well as anyone."

Faulkner will next host Loyola in SSAC action at 4 p.m. Saturday afternoon.
