PULASKI, Tenn. – The No. 12 Eagles basketball team (12-1, 4-0 SSAC) defeated Southern States Athletic Conference opponent Martin Methodist College 80-74 on Monday afternoon.
The Redhawks jumped out to an early lead, but Faulkner was able to fight its way back midway through the first half and take a four-point lead heading into halftime.
The Eagles took over in the second half, knocking down seven of their 12 3-pointers, and even led by as many as 17 points.
Martin Methodist would go on a 14-0 run that last four minutes to cut the Faulkner lead to three points with with just over two minutes remaining.
Sean Edwards and Marquis Grays would be able to knock down clutch freethrows to extend the lead and give the Eagles the win.
Grays led the way for Faulkner with a career-high 29 points. He went 10-for-18 from the field, including six from long range.
It was also a career-day for Earvin Perroni on the boards, pulling down a personal best 16 rebounds.
Rene Scott also had a strong night from the field, going 5-for-8 for 15 points.
Edwards rounded out the double-digit scoring for the Eagles with 13 points.
Faulkner will have time off for the holiday break before travelling to Selma, Alabama, on January 3 where they will take on Concordia College. Tipoff is to be determined.
