NEW ORLEANS, La. - Faulkner (14-11, 9-7 SSAC) led Loyola (16-8, 9-6 SSAC) by six points at halftime and by 10 early in the second period, but a Wolfpack surge ultimately generated a 17-point swing through the middle minutes in that same period to anchor the victory 81-77 here this evening.
Shooting and rebounding between the two teams was fairly even on the night with the Eagles edging the home team in all categories, but turnovers proved a different matter, however, with Faulkner committing 19 to Loyola's 10.
The Wolfpack dominated eight key minutes in the second half starting at the 17-minute mark while trailing the Eagles by 10.
In that span the home team generated a 25-8 run while capitalizing on six Faulkner turnovers to move into a seven point lead.
A back-and-forth battle ensued and while the visitors did force the contest back into a tie, they were never able to reclaim the lead.
Rene Scott had 23 points and three rebounds for Faulkner while Di'mar Hill added 20 points and seven boards.
Logan Jozwiak was good for 16 points, which was heavily weighted by 4-for-8 shooting from behind the arc, and had four rebounds.
Faulkner will next host Brewton-Parker in SSAC action on Feb. 18. Tipoff is set for 4 p.m.
