Explosive fourth quarter lifts Faulkner over Brewton-Parker

MONTGOMERY, Ala. - Faulkner (17-10, 9-8 SSAC) erupted with 40 points in the final period of play to blast through Brewton-Parker (9-14, 6-12 SSAC) in this afternoon's Southern States Athletic Conference showdown here at Tine Davis Gymnasium.

The Lady Eagles led by 10 points at halftime, but the Barons battled back into a dead heat at 47 by the close of the third quarter. From then on out, however, it was all Faulkner.

Faith LeGate led all scores with 19 points and added four steals and a pair of rebounds to the statistical tally.

Chelsea Burt, who made her first appearance in the lineup after two games on injury leave, followed with 18  points as did Kayla Tillman. Burt also had six assists.

Faulkner out-rebounded the visitors 46 to 35 in the outing thanks in big part to brilliant defensive efforts by Olivia Adamson and Brandy Alley who posted 13 and 10 boards, respectively. Alley also had eight rebounds and two steals while Adamson had six points.

"This was a fantastic win for us," said head coach Reed Sutton after the game. "When you score 40 points in a half you feel pretty good, but to get that in a single quarter is huge. Chelsea Burt really helped us being back and Hannah Vest continues to help while we're shorthanded."

When asked about the importance of this afternoon's sixth annual Pink Out event, an emotional Sutton said that what the cancer survivors are doing in their lives is far more important than anything the team will ever do on the court.

"These women fight every day," Sutton said. "We struggle to fight in games a lot of the times and we have no excuse. These women are the epitome of what it means to truly be a fighter. We not only wanted to honor those that were here today, but we do this event every year for everyone who has ever battled this terrible decease."

Faulkner will next host Coastal Georgia in the home finale Monday night at 5:30 p.m. The team will honor its seniors in ceremony following the game.
