Box Score 2 MONTGOMERY, Ala. - After grabbing a pair wins in the Faulkner Invitational yesterday, the Lady Eagles dropped both matches this afternoon at Tine Davis Gymnasium bringing their season total to 2-2. A talented Webber International squad clipped Faulkner in straight sets 25-16, 25-21, 25-17 before Reinhardt outpaced the home team 25-17, 16-25, 25-22, 25-23 in what turned into a nail-biter late.
The Lady Eagles struggled offensively in the opener, executing just .097 in the attack column, but followed with its best percentage of the season in the tournament finale, hitting .255 as a unit.
Pin player Krystalynn Leomiti was again the weapon of choice for Faulkner. The junior hit an impressive .342 on the day while tallying 19 kills, which included team-high efforts in both games. She added six digs and three total blocks to boot.
Madelyn Cheatham had 13 kills over the two contests, 11 of which came against Reinhardt where the sophomore hit .429.
Freshman middle Kortney Barnes matched Cheatham's 13 kills and offered up three total blocks on the day as well.
Senior outside hitter Cassie Bailie booked 19 digs and 12 kills for the Lady Eagles over two matches, while sophomore pin player Madison Sides had a break out effort against Reinhardt with nine kills, hitting .333.
Junior middle Tori Marchant anchored the defensive front with eight total blocks while adding five kills.
Libero Julianne Wilkes kept the back row on lock with 34 digs.
The setting duo was paced by junior Katie Musser who logged 35 assists while also contributing 15 digs. Fellow feeder Ariana Vannoy had 26 assists, seven digs and four aces.
"Day two was more frustrating as the competition was a little more aggressive," head coach Tori Bartels said. "We didn't rise completely to the challenge. In the second match, I saw my girls fight for every point, but we were just unable to finish, and that will be something we focus on. The tournament as a whole, though, I feel was a success. I think we were able to see areas of weaknesses and see strengths develop even further."
Faulkner will next enter the Life University tournament in Marietta, Georgia, on Friday. The Lady Eagles open the two-day outing against former conference foe Brenau University at 11 a.m. central before going head-to-head with Point (Ga.) at 5.
