MONTGOMERY, Ala. - Faulkner (3-2) defeated Webber International 48-21 in its first Mid-South Conference Sun Division matchup of the season at Billy D. Hilyer Stadium this afternoon. The victory also marked the program's 50th overall.

After a bit of a shaky start, the Eagles finally broke through in the first quarter when quarterback Clayton Nicholas completed a 24-yard touchdown pass to Jazeric Peterson.

Faulkner rolled the Warriors in the first 30 minutes of play, taking a 34-0 lead into the locker room at the break.

The second half was a bit more even, but the Eagles' giant lead proved too much for Webber to overcome.

Nicholas was 16-for-26 with 374 yards, with four touchdowns and two interceptions on the day.

Quarterback Mason Blocker took over in the pocket for the final 15 minutes and completed five of his six passes which included a 28-yard touchdown strike to Kam Ford.

Jacob McCrary led the Eagle receiving corps with 168 yards and two touchdowns on two catches, one for 91 yards and the other for 77 yards.

Reagan Amos and Terrance Sims each had a receiving touchdowns as well and recorded 63 yards and 14 yards in the air, respectively.

Dee Williams led the Eagles on the ground with 46 yards on 12 carries while Kawon Bryant followed closely with 45 yards on 13 touches.

Joe Jones' 12-yard touchdown was Faulkner's only rushing score of the outing. He finished the contest with 21 yards.

Vandy Smith led the Faulkner defense with 10 tackles and Ryan Lee, Antonio Gurley and Daniel Johnson each added nine.

Keith Bryant, Jazeric Peterson and Bubba Scanlan all forced fumbles in the game.

"You can't win a conference championship until you win that first game," head coach Charlie Boren said. "There are a lot of things we need to work on if we want to be a serious contender, but we're really happy to get that first win."

Faulkner's next game will be against Ave Maria at Billy D. Hilyer Stadium on October 7. Kickoff is set for 4 p.m.
