MONTGOMERY, Ala. – Faulkner's women's basketball team (15-2, 3-2 SSAC) edged out a 64-62 win in overtime against Southern States Athletic Conference foe Blue Mountain College on Thursday night at Tine Davis Gymnasium.
Both teams started off slow offensively, but the Lady Eagles were able to take a two-point lead heading into the first break. There was more scoring for both sides in the second quarter, and Faulkner took a four-point margin into halftime.
The start of the second half was all Faulkner, and they were able to go on a 7-0 run before going up by 15 points heading into the final quarter.
The fourth period was the complete opposite of the third as the Lady Toppers were able to fight their way back into the game, getting themselves within two points with just one minute remaining in regulation.
The Lady Eagles led by three points with less than 10 seconds to go when Emilee Murr converted an And-1 to tie the game and send it to overtime.
The game was deadlocked with 16 seconds to go before Kayla Tillman knocked down two clutch free throws to take the lead and give Faulkner the win.
The Lady Eagles were led by Inga Armstrong with a career-high 18 points, and was one rebound shy of a double-double with nine.
Tillman added 14 points to Faulkner's tally.
Savana Flack finished with 12 points and seven rebounds.
The Lady Eagles will take on SSAC opponent William Carey University on Saturday at Tine Davis Gymnasium. Tipoff is set for 2 p.m.
