MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Lady Eagles (16-2, 4-2 SSAC) were able to knock off Southern States Athletic Conference foe William Carey University 71-64 on Saturday afternoon at Tine Davis Gymnasium.
It was a back-and-forth game from the start. Faulkner had to fight its way back from a six-point deficit early on in the game, and both teams started trading baskets to close out the first quarter.
The Lady Eagles were able to hold on to a slim margin for the majority of the second quarter, but the Lady Crusaders were able to take a one-point lead going into the break.
Faulkner came out firing in the third quarter, going on two separate 5-0 runs. Chelsea Burt, who finished the game with six assists, had four dimes in the Lady Eagles' first five possessions of the half.
Faulkner would go on to score 25 points in the quarter to take a six-point lead into the final period.
The Lady Eagles were able to maintain their lead in the fourth quarter and seal the victory.
Kayla Key led Faulkner with 16 points off the bench, tying her career high. She went 3-for-5 from behind the arc.
Inga Armstrong came away with another double-double, finishing with 12 points and pulling down 11 rebounds.
Savana Flack finished with double-digit points with 15.
The Lady Eagles will be on the road to face the University of Mobile on Thursday. Tipoff is set for 5:30 p.m.
