Strong three-point shooting lifts Martin Methodist over Faulkner

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – Faulkner's women's basketball team (16-5, 4-5 SSAC) fell 89-60 to No. 22 Martin Methodist College on Thursday evening at Tine Davis Gymnasium.

 

The Lady Redhawks were able to build a large first-half lead due to being hot from behind the arc, going 11-for-17.

 

Martin Methodist took a 13-point lead at the end of the first quarter after a buzzer beater by Taylor McNairy. The Lady Eagles came out hot in the second period when they made back-to-back three's by Savana Flack and Hannah Vest, both assisted by Nicole Shirley.

 

Faulkner fought its way back to get themselves within five points, but Martin Methodist quickly answered with a run of its own to re-extend its lead going into halftime.

 

The Lady Redhawks cooled down from deep in the second half, only shooting 5-of-19, but the Lady Eagles were unable to cut into the deficit.

 

Flack led the way for Faulkner with 14 points and added five rebounds.

 

Kayla Tillman finished the game with 12 points, followed by Vest with 11.

 

The Lady Eagles will take on No. 20 Bethel University in Southern States Athletic Conference action on Saturday at Tine Davis Gymnasium. Tipoff is set for 2 p.m.
