MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The No. 24 Eagles (14-6, 6-4 SSAC) scored 45 points in the second half to defeat Southern States Athletic Conference rival Martin Methodist College 83-67 on Thursday evening at Tine Davis Gymnasium.
It was a tight-knight game in the first half, but the Redhawks, despite six made three's by the Eagles in the period, were able to maintain a close lead for the last eight minutes to take a two-point lead into the break.
The second half was a much different story when Faulkner was able to turn the two-point deficit into a two-point after Marquis Grays hit one of his five three's with 16:34 remaining. Martin Methodist would tie it back up on their following possession, but a basket by Adnan Halilovic soon after would put the Eagles back up, and they would hold on to the lead for the remainder of the game.
It was a scoring assault for Faulkner in the second half where they more than doubled their scoring from the first.
Six different Eagles were able to reach double-digit points, and the team knocked down 11 three's total in the game.
Lucas Luttrell came away with his first double-double on the season, pulling down a career-high 15 rebounds and adding 14 points.
Grays finished with a court-high 17 points, including five 3-pointers.
Sean Edwards finished with 15 points in his return from injury.
Logan Jozwiak had 14 points on the night, and came up just short of a double-double with eight rebounds.
Halilovic and Rene Scott each had 10 points, and Halilovic finished with eight rebounds.
The Eagles will face off against Bethel University in an SSAC matchup on Saturday at Tine Davis Gymnasium. Tipoff is set for 4 p.m.
