Box Score The Lady Eagles (23-9, 14-2 SSAC) concluded their conference season Friday night in Tampa, Fla. with a 22-25, 25-23, 25-23, 19-25, 15-8 road victory over Florida College (17-11, 9-6 SSAC). In addition to the regular season title, Faulkner had its most successful conference regular season since 2001 when they went undefeated in league play.
The first set saw the Lady Eagles trail by as much as eight, but a 9-3 run brought the visitors back into striking range. Faulkner cut the deficit to 23-22 before the Falcons found two consecutive points to clinch the set.
The back-and-forth second set saw six lead changes with neither side leading by more than three. Tied at 20, three errors from Florida College gave the Lady Eagles the lead for good.
The third set saw both teams lead by as much as four before Faulkner battled out the two point set win. Four times in the third set, the Lady Eagles held serve for three or more points to set themselves apart.
With the fourth frame knotted at 19-19, the Falcons won the next six points to force a decisive fifth set.
Faulkner jumped out to a 6-2 lead in the final frame and kept their foot on the gas only with nine kills allowing Florida College to score back-to-back points just once and never take the lead as the Lady Eagles won their 13th straight match. The top-of-the-conference side hit .467 in the closing set.
Krystalynn Leomiti led Faulkner on multiple fronts tonight with 16 kills and also collected 22 digs for a double-double. Alyssa Stagner and Daijah Washington each picked up double-doubles as well. Stagner had 17 assists and 13 digs while Washington recorded 11 kills and 11 digs.
Kortney Barnes added 12 kills. Katie Musser picked up 20 assists. Tori Marchant had four assisted blocks.
The game was incredibly even all-around as only two total points separated the two sides through every set with the visitors edging the Falcons 106-104. Faulkner hit for .168 and Florida College .169. Faulkner outdug the Falcons 105-102 but trailed 9-7 in blocks.
The Lady Eagles will head to Lakeland, Fla. tomorrow for the Southeastern Trimatch. Faulkner will face Florida Memorial at 2 p.m. and Southeastern at 4.
