Box Score 2 Faulkner (24-10) made quick work of Florida Memorial 25-18, 25-14, 25-19 before falling to Southeastern 25-18, 16-25, 12-25, 23-25 in the Southeastern Trimatch Saturday afternoon at The Furnace in Lakeland, Fla.
The Lady Eagles took down the Lady Lions with incredible defense and strong attacking. Florida Memorial hit -.200 on the afternoon while Faulkner hit .169.
Alysa Vinson led the Lady Eagles in kills with ten and tied for the lead in digs with Julianne Wilkes at 11 in the opening match. Tori Marchant recored two and a half of the team's seven blocks. Katie Musser and Alyssa Stagner each had 14 assists.
Southeastern's attack was too much to handle in the regular season finale. The Fire picked up 59 kills in the four set victory. The Lady Eagles nearly forced a fifth set, but after leading 21-18 in the fourth, the Fire went on a 7-2 run to close the match. It was the first defeat Faulkner has suffered since Sept. 25.
Julianne Wilkes picked up 22 digs. Stagner, Vinson and Washington all tallied double-digit digs as well. Kortney Barnes recorded three blocks while Tori Marchant added two. Krystalynn Leomiti led the Lady Eagles with nine kills. Stagner also had 18 assists.
Faulkner will open play in the SSAC Volleyball Championship at 10 a.m. against Brewton-Parker (4-26, 0-16 SSAC) Thursday at the Cramton Bowl Multiplex in a pool play contest. Florida College (18-11, 10-6 SSAC) rounds out the three-team group in which the top two will advance to the knockout stage.
