Box Score Faulkner overcame a nine-point second half deficit by shooting a slick 45.5 percent from deep in the game's final 20 minutes for an 84-74 victory over Voorhees College.
"I thought in the first half, we quick shot it. We shot the ball way too quick. Last night we had 24 assists the other night. Tonight, in the first half, we only had six assists," Faulkner Head Coach Scott Sanderson said. "Late, in the last 10 minutes of the game, we got certain guys shots. We got Sean (Edwards) a couple of shots. We got Rene (Scott) a couple of shots. We got Milan (Skundric) a couple of shots. We've just got multiple guys that can score the basketball. The thing I like the most was in the middle part of the second half, we were down nine. We guarded the way we were supposed to guard."
The Eagles saw that trio dominate the second half scoring down the stretch. Scott finished with 15 points while Edwards and C.J. Jones (JR/Port Richey, Fla.) each had 12. Skundric finished with game highs in points (21), rebounds (18) and assists (4).
"He is capable of doing that. He is very skilled. He can score the ball," Sanderson said of Skundric. "He is a big time volleyball player. That's why he gets up off the floor. He can block shots. He can get rebounds. He is a good passer. He's a really good player. My biggest thing with him is we are just trying to get him to be more consistent."
The win leaves Faulkner 2-0 on the season with a perfect run through The Jimmy Faulkner Classic. The Eagles travel to Dalton, Ga. next weekend to take on a pair of ranked opponents in the SSAC-Mid-South Challenge. Faulkner faces No. 16 University of the Cumberlands Friday at 4 p.m. before challenging No. 8 Pikeville Saturday at 1 p.m.
"Just to get better," Sanderson said of his goal for the trip. "You're playing some top tier teams. We feel like we're just as good as the teams we're going to be playing there. It's better competition you're playing. You've got to play more than 20 minutes like we did today."
