Turnovers plague Faulkner in loss to William Carey

Box Score

Faulkner's road trip turnover woes continued in a major way Sunday evening as the NAIA's No. 7 ranked team lost to William Carey 70-63. The Eagles turned the ball over 30 times in the game, making a total of 56 such errors in the 0-2 SSAC trip.

"That was the story to the whole trip. You can't overcome that many turnovers in either game. The other day we were averaging 10 and today we had 30. That's a hard thing to overcome," Faulkner Head Coach Scott Sanderson said. "We were better defensively When you're better defensively and people are missing shots, you've got to rebound. When you give up 12 offensive rebounds and you turn the ball over 30 times, you're going to have a hard time beating anybody."

Faulkner capped a 7-0 run on a Rene Scott (JR/Mobile, Ala.) field goal with 14:31 to play in the game to take a 42-39 lead. With 12:11 to go, Leito Holloway hit a shot that put the Crusaders on top to stay. The Eagles kept it at a one possession game until inside of a minute to play before Crusader free throws put the game away.

Faulkner only turned William Carey over 12 times in the game while allowing 37.1 percent shooting from the floor. Sanderson's team shot 38.5 percent from the floor and 37.5 percent from three.

Milan Skundric (JR/Negotin, Serbia) topped all scorers with 19 points while C.J. Jones (JR/Port Richey, Fla.) had 18. Five Crusaders scored in double figures.

Faulkner (9-2, 2-2 SSAC) returns to action Dec. 29 when it hosts Truett-McConnell at 1 p.m.

"We're going to let them go home for a while for Christmas. We'll get back on the 26th. That's a long time, but we don't really have a choice about it. We'll come back and we'll practice twice on the 26th, twice on the 27th, and once on the 28th," Sanderson said. "The last two games we did a couple of things that aren't characteristic of us. Maybe the break is coming at a good time for us.
