No. 5 Campbellsville forces 31 turnovers in rout of Faulkner

Box Score

Faulkner held the lead for all of 3:15 in the first quarter Monday afternoon before succumbing to No. 5 Campbellsville 95-53. The Lady Eagles turned the ball over 12 times in the first quarter and 31 in the game on the way to the 42-point loss.

"They do what they do. If you can attack them, you can beat them. If you allow them to be in their wheelhouse, then that's what's going to happen," Faulkner Head Coach Reed Sutton said. "When you turn them over and you allow them to be on the offensive glass the way that they did, you're giving them those 102-103 possessions that they like to play."

Faulkner took a quick 3-0 lead on an Ashlyn Adkins (SO/Locust Fork, Ala.) triple and maintained the lead on another Adkins shot. The sophomore guard hit another three with 2:51 to go in the opening quarter to cut the deficit to 14-8 but Faulkner would never draw close again. Campbellsville used a 14-0 run in the first quarter and another 14-0 run in the second to put the game out of reach.

"The microcosm of the game was really the first quarter. I don't think our guys came out and really believed. And they didn't believe in the game plan," Sutton said. "They didn't really execute anything. When you are playing a team like that, you've got to play your best and you've got to execute. When you're 0-2, that's the result you're going to get against a Top 5 team."

Campbellsville (13-2) shot 51.4 percent from the floor and racked up 22 steals as a team. Madison Faulkner paced the Tigers with 17 points and 10 rebounds. Madison Stewart had 13 points. Madison Kaiser and Faith Lake each finished with 11 points.

Adkins paced the Lady Eagles with 17 points.

Faulkner (8-4) hosts Thomas University at 2 p.m. Tuesday Jan. 1, 2019.
