Box Score Faulkner led by as many as 20 in the second in the half but had to hold on against a late surge from Oakwood for a 92-87 victory.
"We try to be in the gaps. They're very quick off the bounce. I wanted to be in the gaps and make them pitch it. They did step back and make some threes but I didn't like how we played. There was a whole lot of energy to us," Faulkner Head Coach Scott Sanderson said. "I just didn't like the overall energy and effort, especially defensively."
The Eagles held an 86-68 lead with 4:43 to play when Oakwood embarked upon a 10-0 run over the next 2:20 to make it a game again. Sean Edwards (SR/Madison, Ala.) restored normalcy for a moment with an and-1 bucket at the 1:50 mark before Oakwood cut it to a six-point deficit with 49 seconds to go. The Ambassadors got it to within five points before Faulkner finished off the win.

Jones (JR/Port Richey, Fla.) finished with 19 points while Sean Edwards had 18. Milan Skundric (JR/Negotin, Serbia) topped the rebounding totals with 12.
Faulkner (9-0, 2-0 SSAC) returns to action Friday when it travels to Loyola before finishing the road trip at William Carey Sunday afternoon.
"We've got exams this week so our practices will be limited. We'll have three days of preparation for Loyola on Friday," Sanderson said. "The amount of time we are out here on the floor and we'll try to digest some of the things that Loyola does."
