HATTIESBURG, Miss. – Faulkner's women's basketball team (20-5, 7-5 SSAC) sealed a big 73-68 victory over William Carey on Saturday afternoonfor the prgram's 150th total win.
The Lady Eagles didn't hold a lead until seven minutes to go in the second quarter where they led by as many as eight points. Since that point in the match, the game saw 16 different lead changes and four ties.
Faulkner led by just one point late in the game until Savana Flack knocked down a three to regain the lead with just 36 seconds remaining.
Kayla Tillman was fouled with 12 seconds to go, and after missing her first attempt, she was able to knock down her second free throw to extend the lead to three.
On William Carey's ensuing possession, Kayla Key was able to sneak in and get a steal and get the ball back to Tillman who was fouled and sent back to the line, where she would knock down both attempts to give the Lady Eagles the five-point lead and the victory.
Flack led the way for Faulkner with a court-high 19 points, 5-for-6 from behind the arc, and added six rebounds.
Chelsea Burt finished with 13 points and did an excellent job of finding her teammates, recording six assists.
Tillman had 12 points in the game, followed by Ashlyn Adkins with 10.
The Lady Eagles will return to Tine Davis Gymnasium on Thursday when they take on Southern States Athletic Conference Rival Mobile in their annual pink out game at 5:30 p.m. No admission will be charged, but donations will be accepted to support the Kay Yow Cancer Fund through the Play4Kay initiative.
