MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Lady Eagles basketball team (21-5, 8-5 SSAC) won 66-65 in a last-second thriller over Southern States Athletic Conference rival Mobile on Thursday afternoon at Tine Davis Gymnasium.
Neither team was really able to get any breathing room throughout the entire match. Mobile's biggest lead got up to six points late in the second quarter, and Faulkner led by as many as nine late in the third quarter.
As the game was coming to a close, the Lady Eagles were able to knock down clutch free throws down the stretch, which ultimately was the difference in the game.
The game was tied with 46 second remaining when Brandy Alley was fouled and got sent to the charity stripe for two free throws. She was able to knock down both to take the lead by two.
On Mobile's ensuing possession, Kendra Langham was able to get to the basket to tie the game with under 25 seconds to go before Kayla Tillman was fouled with less than 10 seconds remaining. She would knock down one of two from the line, and Mobile would call timeout with eight seconds to go and advance the ball into the backcourt.
With three seconds remaining, Mobile attempted to drive to the basket, but the ball was knocked loose as time expired, giving Faulkner the victory.
Alley finished the game with a double-double, pulling down 15 rebounds and scoring 10 points.
Chelsea Burt led the way in scoring for the Lady Eagles, tallying 12 points and adding five boards.
Tillman finished the game with 10 points, going 3-for-6 from behind the arc.
