Box Score MT. VERNON, Ga. - A strong second-half surge elevated Brewton-Parker (6-23, 5-13 SSAC) to an 83-78 Southern States Athletic Conference victory over Faulkner (18-10, 10-8 SSAC) here in the regular season finale this afternoon.
The Eagles held a seven-point advantage at the break and extend the cushion to 11 by the midway point in the second half.
The home team orchestrated a methodical counter attack with 10 minutes to play, however, and forced the event into a stalemate in just four minutes later thanks to a 14-3 run.
Faulkner did muscle its way back into a five-point lead just moments later, but it was the Barons' impressive 10-0 spree over the final three minutes of play that solidified the outcome.
Logan Jozwiak did everything within his power to keep the visitors in contention with a brilliant 27-point offering backed with seven rebounds. The scoring total is a career high.
Rene Scott followed with 14 points while Adnan Halilovic added 10 more.
The Eagles shot an impressive 53 percent from the field and 38 percent from long range while holding Brewton-Parker to 43 percent in both categories.
Faulkner will be the fourth seed in next week's SSAC tournament at the Cramton Bowl Multiplex downtown where it will open play against fifth-seeded Bethel at 9:45 p.m. Thursday.
