MONTGOMERY, Ala. – It took a last second shot in the paint for the No. 11 Dalton State Roadrunners to defeat the Eagles (15-7-7-5 SSAC) 70-69 on Saturday afternoon at Tine Davis Gymnasium.
Dalton State was able to take advantage of Faulkner turnovers in the first half, scoring 15 points off of their 11 giveaways. That led to a 10-point lead going into halftime.
The second half was a much different story for the Eagles. They were able to trim the lead down to two points with less than 14 minutes remaining in the game.
The Roadrunners were able to take advantage of a few more Eagle turnovers late in the game, making back-to-back three's after Faulkner was able to tie it up.
Logan Jozwiak hit two of his five three's in the game, on with just under two minutes remaining to cut the Dalton State lead to just three, and another with 20 seconds remaining to put the Eagles down one.
Faulkner was able to get a quick foul sending Isaiah Box to the line for two free throws, where he made the first but missed the second.
Earvin Perroni came down with the rebounded and got the ball quickly to Sean Edwards who took it up the floor.
With just 15 seconds remaining, the Eagles down two, Edwards pulled up and knocked down a daring three to give Faulkner its only lead of the game.
After a timeout by Dalton State, they were able to get the ball in to Reed Dungan who cleared things out and was able to knock down the game-winning basket with six seconds remaining.
Jozwiak led the way for Faulkner, scoring 23 points, including 5-for-10 from three, and pulling down 13 rebounds.
Edwards finished with 17 points and came away with five rebounds and four assists.
Rene Scott had 10 points in the matchup.
The Eagles will go on the road to face off against Blue Mountain College in a Southern States Athletic Conference matchup at 7 p.m. Faulkner won the last game in Montgomery 87-70.
