Faulkner dismantles William Carey in SSAC tourney

Box Score

MONTGOMERY, Ala. - Fourth-seeded Faulkner (25-5) knocked down 14-of-29 shots from behind the arc to anchor its 84-56 blowout of No. 5 William Carey (8-15) here in the quarterfinals of the Southern States Athletic Conference tournament here at the Cramton Bowl Multiplex this evening.

The Lady Eagles rained a barrage of 3-pointers on the Crusaders early in the contest on 7-of-16 shooting and led by as many as 12 points in the first half.

Turnovers plagued Faulkner over the first 20 minutes of play and ultimately kept the birds from securing a larger cushion. A more disciplined offensive effort in the second half, however, helped pave the way to a very comfortable decision.

Scoring was fairly evenly distributed among the Lady Eagles, but it was Hannah Vest who had the hot hand with 17 points. The senior shot 67 percent from the field and sank 5-of-7 shots from range.

Kayla Tillman, Inga Armstrong and and Chelsea Burt tallied 11 points each while Nicole Shirley added 10 more and was a rebound shy of a double-double outing with nine.

Faulkner advances to take in top-seeded Martin Methodist in semifinal action tomorrow at 5 p.m.
