Cold Hitting Costs Faulkner in Second Day of Mariner Invitational

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

BRUNSWICK, Ga. — Faulkner (1-3) suffered two losses here at the Mariner Invitational this afternoon. Mayville State (N.D.) (2-2) took the first match 25-14, 23-25,18-25, 25-10, 15-10 and Point (Ga.) took the second 25-18, 25-15, 19-25, 18-25, 15-9. The Lady Eagles hit .072 and .073 percent in the respective matches.

Faulkner struggled to get anything going against the side from North Dakota in the opening match of the day. The Comets took advantage of an usually poor blocking performance from the Lady Eagles who only rejected two attacks, as well as 39 attacking errors from the struggling side. Despite low statistics, Faulkner was able to take a 2-1 lead into the fourth set and it was all Mayville State from there.

Katie Musser recorded a double-double with 25 assists and 10 digs.

Mallory Black picked up 11 kills and Kortney Barnes successfully ended the point 10 times.

Faulkner immediately turned around to face Point and was unable to figure out what went wrong.

Sloppy Skyhawk serving was enough to keep the Lady Eagles in the contest and keep most of the sets competitive, but a slew of Faulkner errors allowed Point to seal the match.

Musser recorded her second double-double of the day, this time with 13 assists and 11 digs.

The Lady Eagles will host the Faulkner Invitational next weekend. The tournament will feature 10 teams and will be played over two days. The home team will open their contests in Tine Davis Gymnasium on Friday at 4:00 p.m. against Webber International.
